Sarah Wright (b. 1995, Canada)
Trinity Western University, BA, Art + Design, 2018
Emily Carr University, BFA, Critical + Cultural Practices, 2020
Sarah begins her work with a question about the structure of the world, the daily absurdities we encounter, our views of the other. This question swells to conversation, combining social interactions and art making. Through the practice of empathetic listening, she places herself in the larger narrative of her current environment, while exploring issues of power relations, injustice, marginalization and identity. Drawing from street art, comics and discarded garbage, her work moves fluidly through a world of carefully constructed systems and boundaries to trace the story hidden beneath.
Originally from London, Ontario, Sarah currently resides in British Columbia with plans to escape suburbia.
